After having released their critically acclaimed debut Native Speaker in 2011, Braids have returned with a new 12" single In Kind // Amends. Available on iTunes and in stores via Flemish Eye Records in Canada, the 12" features two singles from their forthcoming sophomore album, as well as two exclusive B-sides. Keep an eye out for their second full-length album, Flourish // Perish, due out August 20th.
The 12" openerIn Kind captures the peak of the group's songwriting in their four piece incarnation. Written live, it is a layered and emotionally raw saga. The first single Amends is a strong contrast, and shows the group's exploration into electronic and dance music. Filling out the 12" are two exclusive tracks that explore the textured and atmospheric side of the band – the subtly percussive Near Enough and the mesmerizing A Dawn in Me.

Braids' new album out in August!
Hot on the heels of their 12" single In Kind // Amends, Braids have returned with their new LP Flourish // Perish. Their first full-length after the critically acclaimed debut Native Speaker in 2011, the new double LP captures the maturation of the band over the last two years and is out August 20th on Flemish Eye Records in Canada. The second single from the LP and 12" is now streaming on YouTube.
Flourish // Perish showcases the strength of the band as a collective, and explores their burgeoning love for electronic music. The band brings their widely disparate strengths together to create a distinctive voice; the organic and complex rhythms dance and spar with sparsely decorative sounds, often fragmented, tampered, and filtered beyond recognition. Interwoven amongst these threads is the layered voice of Standell-Preston, her engaging lyrics and human performance drawing the listener close.
The Besnard Lakes’ Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO, now available in stores and on iTunes through Outside Music, had its humble beginnings in mid-2011 and was completed over the course of a year. Ever mindful and attentive to the most subtle and nuanced details, founding band members Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas produced, recorded and mixed at the stalwart Breakglass Studios in Montreal. Eventually mastered by the renowned Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound, this fourth album by The Besnard Lakes features heavyweight additions by Moonface’s Spencer Krug and Mike Bigelow, The Barr Brothers’ Sarah Page, the always-enchanting Monica Guenter and the return of Fifth String Liberation Singers’ Choir.
